Look Up at the Ceiling on the Tokyo Station Keiyo Line Platform, and You’ll See a Castle

Tokyo Disney Resort, a theme park located in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture. Despite having “Tokyo” in its name, its actual address is 1-1 Maihama, Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture. If you’re traveling to this theme park built on reclaimed land by train, you’ll be using the Keiyo Line.

The Keiyo Line runs along the Tokyo Bay side from Tokyo Station to Soga Station, whereas the Sobu Line, which runs inland, diverges at Tokyo and reconnects at Soga. Here’s a fun fact: If you have a commuter pass that covers both Tokyo and Soga via either route, you can use your pass on both lines regardless of which route your pass was originally purchased for. I once found this out when I tried to settle my fare at Kaihin-Makuhari Station while using a Sobu Line commuter pass. A station attendant told me, “Just go through the automatic gate,” and that was when I first learned about this rule.

At Tokyo Station’s Keiyo Line platform, there’s a little surprise waiting on the ceiling. The ceiling lights are shaped like a castle.

If you’re heading to the “Kingdom of Dreams,” take a moment to look up at the ceiling of the Keiyo Line platform at Tokyo Station. You might spot a bit of magic before even reaching your destination.
