Enjoying a Dojo Nabe at Komagata Dozeu in Asakusa

There is a restaurant in Asakusa where you can enjoy loach (dojo) dishes. I had a wonderful loach hot pot at a restaurant called Komagata Dozeu. At the end of every year, once my work for the year is finished, I make it a point to visit this place.

I took the Ginza Line to Asakusa and walked from the station. Before long, an old-fashioned building with a traditional atmosphere came into view. Incidentally, Bandai’s headquarters is right next door, where statues of characters like Son Goku and Doraemon are lined up.

The first floor has tatami seating, while the second floor and basement have table seating. That said, I highly recommend eating in the tatami room, which has been part of the restaurant since the Edo period. I enjoyed some sake, then prepared the loach hot pot by piling on plenty of green onions and simmering it with the sweet soy-based sauce until the flavors soaked in.

They also bring grilled items (dengaku) and rice, which I usually ask for around the time I’ve finished my sake. Everything is incredibly delicious, and I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try.
