I Sold My Old MacBook Pro

After getting my new MacBook Pro and completing the data transfer, I decided to sell my old one since I no longer needed it. I chose to sell it through Bic Camera. Although I could have listed it on platforms like Mercari, I was concerned about data security, so I opted to go with a reputable business.

For the reset process, I followed Apple’s guide on “What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac – Apple Support” to ensure a thorough reset. I had the original box and power adapter, but the original USB-C cable was missing, as it had broken, and I’d replaced it with a newer model. Since the cable material differed from the original, I decided not to buy a new one just for the sale and went ahead without it.

I made an appointment at Rakuru, checked in at the store, and was promptly attended to. They inspected the device, and I received an SMS with the assessment result later that day. The assessment result was also accessible via Rakuru’s transaction history.

In the end, I was able to sell it for 62,500 yen. The main unit of my 2018 MacBook Pro was valued at 41,000 yen, with a deduction of -500 yen for the missing USB-C cable. An additional 21,500 yen was added for the memory and SSD upgrades. Compared to Apple’s trade-in estimate of 30,000 yen, I ended up selling it for more than twice that amount.

Apple products tend to retain high resale value, so it’s best to keep them in good condition and avoid misplacing accessories if you plan to sell in the future.
